Guy, I have always presented a sound reason for JDSU being added to the S and P 500. However, i have never started a rumor that it will be added. I just feel it SHOULD be added. When a website (stockwinners.com)presents it as a rumor, that is like saying a certain company is going to issue a profit warning based upon a tip from someone who is a good source.

Presenting a logical reason is not starting a rumor. Just look at the market cap of the companies not in the index and you will notice how JDSU stands out among them. A while ago, i thought the revenue for the company was the barrier. However, i have noticed that Yahoo or GLBX is not much different. Furthermore GBLX (lower market cap)is in while JDSU is not. If the people at S and P feel that since Lucent and Nortel, big fibre optics players, are already in, they may want to wait on JDSU. In addition, when adding a large cap stock, it causes big spikes in stock price---Yahoo and AOL. However, not in every case---as i think QCOM did not rocket on the addition. People tend to remember the last one--Yahoo--which shot up big.

One reason they could be waiting is that the merger of Uniphase and JDS Fitel took place in June 99.

Of course all speculation on my part.

BTW--i have been presenting this argument since September or October of 1999. I am still waiting.
