I agree. However the market does tend to look ahead, its based of of expectations. For your Harddrive information on areal densities which is good info, I offer you 300mm wafers and .10 Micron processes along with the current .18 Coupled with the lack of need to be the top CPU power for 90% of users. A 300Mhz with 128Megs will do almost all task perfectly, 500mhz are dirt cheap now, how many 500 mhz people need a 800, not much.

On the other hand in the words of an old aquantance Thad Florian, Nobody ever complained about their computer working too fast.

I do not see a lowering of aggegate demand for PC CPUs, I do see less of a drive to the higher performance parts which means the smaller die, and larger wafers, and tighter processes, could give a real boost in effective capacity.

We shall see tonight.
