Intel Introduces New High Performance Processor for Servers and
Workstations

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan 12, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) Processor at 800 MHz
Targets Fast Growing "Front-End" Internet Server
and Power Workstation Market Segments

Intel Corporation today introduced a powerful Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM)
processor at 800 MHz targeting the rapidly growing segments for
workstations and "front-end" servers -- a class of single- and
dual-processor Internet servers for e-business functions such as Web
site hosting and e-commerce authentication.

"Intel continues to deliver enterprise-class features and power to
front-end and general-purpose two-way servers and workstations for the
e-business infrastructure," said Mike Fister, vice president and
general manager of Intel's Enterprise Server Group. "In 2000, we will
continue to increase the performance of our scalable and highly
available Pentium III Xeon processors and introduce our 64-bit Intel(R)
Itanium(TM) processor, making it an exciting year for Intel-based
server and workstation customers."

Pentium III Xeon Processor for Servers

Like other members of the Pentium III Xeon processor family, the new
800 MHz version is designed to deliver the scalability, headroom and
availability features needed in front-end Internet commerce servers and
general-purpose servers, at affordable prices.

The processor is based on Intel's advanced 0.18-micron process
technology, and features a 256 Kbyte Advanced Transfer Cache memory
with Advanced System Buffering, which boost performance by placing a
full-speed level-two cache memory directly on the processor die and
increasing the width of the data pathway to the processor. The
processor also offers a 133 MHz system bus and on-cartridge voltage
management for increased system reliability.

Later this year, Intel plans to expand the product line with additional
speed enhancements and higher cache options.

Workstation Processors

The Pentium III Xeon processor at 800 MHz gives workstation users the
power and performance to manage increasingly complex projects, reduce
design time and work more efficiently.

Workstations based on these processors offer enhanced system features
and capabilities including the 133 MHz system bus, 64-bit PCI support,
graphics support for AGP 2x/4x, and dual Direct RDRAM memory channels
with up to 2 Gbytes of memory support. Intel's latest processor and
chipset technologies complement the graphics subsystem to allow greater
texturing, more fluid movements, and better display output, enabling
"e-creation" for the Internet and the flexibility and scalability
necessary to power better visualization and more complex analysis.

Pricing and Availability

The Pentium III Xeon processor at 800 MHz is available now in SECC2
packaging. The processor is priced at $901 in 1,000-unit quantities.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer
of computer, networking and communications products. Additional
