I really don't think he knew how bad things were. It must have been an eye-opener to see the Wolf Mountain Group walking off, unafraid of any trade secret litigation. Schmidt is not a miracle maker. I think he is pissed. They gave him the shortest honeymoon on record at Novell. They probably expected he would hide the bad news. The BOD may have no credibility, and senior management may have no credibility for the strategy they adopted that got Novell into this mess, but Schmidt definitely has credibility. The question is does he have power.
