JRI, server farms, well, Intel has a major new push into this. Personally, holding both EMC and Intel, I'd just soon EMC went somewhere else for totally new markets, for a couple of reasons. First, Intel has put one of their top Senior VPs, Gerhard Parker, in charge as GM of the new venture, it is off to a good start, and has many alliance partners and customers already listed on their web site. They already have a state of the art server farm facility in Santa Clara, a second one going in in the Far East somewhere, and plans for several more. Second, Intel has a reputation for crushing competition like an anaconda. I don't need to see either company in a scenario like that.
Oh, another reason might be that EMC is still busy digesting the DG buyout. Don't need another Compaq on our hands (buying DEC and Tandem within one year, stock dead money for three).
Good idea though.
All of course IMHO.
Hmmm, another thought, Ruettgers talks of data centers become storage centric, vs. the traditional CPU centric. Maybe your idea would be a good way for EMC to manifest, push this concept.
