ACD Systems Appoints Dr. Mantis Cheng to Board of Directors

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--ACD Systems International Inc. (CDNX:
ASA) announced today that Dr. Mantis Cheng, a recognized expert in
embedded systems and high performance internetworking
technologies, has been appointed as a member of the Board of
Directors and Technical Advisor to the Company. Since December,
1999, Dr. Cheng has been working closely with ACD Systems on
developing next generation imaging and internet embedded
applications.
Dr. Cheng received his B. Math, M. Math, and Ph.D from the
University of Waterloo in Mathematics and Computer Science. After
spending a year as a visiting professor in Waterloo, he has been
with the University of Victoria since 1988. His primary research
areas are distributed real time control systems, embedded systems,
concurrency theories and internetworking engineering, with
particular emphasis on performance and reliability issues.
In addition to being a professor at the University of Victoria,
Dr. Cheng has worked closely with Nortel Networks for the last ten
years. Three of these years were spent as a research scientist in
the Computing Technology Laboratory of Nortel Networks in Ottawa.
While there his research topics included performance issues in
control software for the high speed optical router, resilient
protocols design and verification issues, distributed real time
runtime systems and internet routing and quality of services.
At the University of Victoria, Dr. Cheng is a member of the
Parallel and Distributed Systems Group, which works closely on
multimedia applications with the Sony Computer Science Laboratory,
Japan. He teaches operating systems, design and analysis of real
time systems, design formalisms and concurrency theories.
