THM, you have oversimplified ORCL's role and differentiators.

I wasn't actually trying to do a complete run down, just address a few points. I basically argree with all of your points except that some of these, particularly security, the web bits, and some aspects of deployment flexability are more properly the domain of the application ... which is not to say that people typically do it properly, so they create switching costs for themselves which they didn't have to create.

The story is not all good, however.

ORCL is the Gorilla of databases with MSFT SQL server as the Monkey.

With the possible exception of the latest version, would you go for "Prosimian"?
