Given the speed in which she went from her apartment to Old Campus I'd guess she at least had her Yale ID with her she'd have needed to open the locked gates along the way.

Or....

Here's another scenario. It hinges on the accuracy of Peter Stein's testimony, and on what we understand from it.

Suzanne is at home, checking her email before heading out to return the car keys. The phone rings. Someone says he needs to see her, to talk to her urgently. She explains about the car. He says he'll pick her up and drive her to Phelps Gate.

And so he does. She gets out, enters the gate. She spots Peter Stein, who at the moment has his back turned, goes up and greets him. They chat for a few minutes and then she goes off to the police substation.

Meanwhile, Killer has--as he told her he would do; Phelps Gate is a busy place--parked his car around the corner on Elm Street. Suzanne exits onto College, is seen by Witness, and meets Killer in his car...

So who's Killer? I have no idea, but if the circumstances are as described, it must have been someone she knew.
