Ali,

Those shares are purchased to compensate great employees. The employees who generate great profits.

They are a less expensive currancy then salary, as they increase over time.

This would not have worked for AMD until recently, the employee's compensation would have gone down. I don't know that the folks that work at AMD would accept stock options as a major part of their compensation.
