SNC-Lavalin Obtains Contract for Lantic Sugar

JANUARY 13, 2000
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--SNC-Lavalin Audet, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
SNC-Lavalin Group, has obtained a contract from Lantic Sugar
Canada for a $65-million project to double the capacity of its
Montreal sugar refinery to 80 tonnes per hour from 40 tonnes per
hour.

SNC-Lavalin will provide project and construction management,
complementary engineering services and assistance during
commissioning.

SNC-Lavalin entered the agrifood business with the acquisition of
Pingat Ingenierie in France in June 1996, followed by the
acquisition of Audet Consultants in November 1998. This was part
of a global strategy to strengthen its presence in emerging high
growth sectors.

SNC-Lavalin Group is one of the leading engineering and
construction firms in the world, and a key player in the ownership
and management of infrastructure. The group and its companies
have offices across Canada and in 30 other countries, and are
currently working in some 100 countries. The company is listed on
the Toronto stock exchange (symbol: SNC).
