A 3G Partnership
Emphasizing its commitment to playing a leading role in the development of third generation wire-less technology, InterDigital has formed a co-operative relationship with Finland?s Nokia. The Inter-Digital/Nokia relationship involves a multi-year development project of
technology components that may be used in third generation wireless products. InterDigital's role is to design and develop technology building blocks to be used in third generation applications.

Nokia is funding the project, maintaining an active role in the development plan, and when the development is complete, will utilize the technology in third generation products. InterDigital will own the technology it develops and will have the ability to license the technology to
other companies, as well as design, manufacture, sell and use products and components that utilize the new technology. InterDigital will draw on its extensive experience in developing B-CDMA? technology and products to design for Nokia new solutions that will enable
high-speed transmission of data and voice in mobile and fixed products. The new third generation air interface will enable business users and consumers to send and receive large amounts of data at high rates, in a wireless environment, thus facilitating the creation of
innovative new services.

B-CDMA?
is InterDigital's name for its unique wider bandwidth CDMA technology, enabling a large number of users to simultaneously access a single radio frequency channel by allocating unique code sequences to each user across each channel

B-CDMA technology enables wireline quality voice transmission, high speed Internet access and data transmission, and multimedia applications in an efficient wireless communications.

MultipleApplications
One of the most interesting characteristics of the B-CDMA ASIC is that is designed to work in multiple applications, offering eight different chip rates and the ability to work at many different user data rates from 8kbit/s to 512bit/s. This flexibility, which will be designed into the
FDD ASIC, will be important for the multiple application environment of third generation.

Today's mobile phones all feature a system on a chip ASIC. The difference with the third generation products will be the additional functionality required to handle the complexities of the new air interface. The InterDigital solution will obviate the need for smaller vendors to
invest in ASIC design and become involved in multiple iterations of that design with silicon foundries. Instead they will be able to purchase a complete package as well as program it to meet their own needs, thus providing them with market differentiation
