MIPS Technologies' RISC core licenses power 43% gain in Q2 revenues
Semiconductor Business News (01/13/00, 05:54:58 PM EDT) MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- MIPS processor cores continued to be a hot property in the semiconductor industry during the just completed fiscal quarter, MIPSTechnologies Inc. reported here today.
The intellectual-property developer said that for the second quarter, ended Dec. 31, 1999, its revenues were $21.5 million, an increase of 43% compared with the same quarter a year ago. Royalties rose only slightly, from $13.2 million to $13.6 million year-over-year, while contract revenues soared to $7.9 million from $1.8 million in the comparable period in fiscal 1999.
Net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2000 was $6.6 million, or 60% above the $4.1 million it recorded in in the same quarter last year. The diluted net income per share for the second quarter of fiscal 2000 was 17 cents, compared to 11 cents for the year ago quarter.
"MIPS Technologies' revenue and earnings growth continues to show the strength of our intellectual property business model and the desirability of MIPS-based products in the marketplace," said Casey Eichler, chief financial officer.
During the quarter, four new licenses of MIPS 32-and 64-bit RISC cores were signed: General Instrument, SandCraft, SiByte and ESS Technology. Three more were announced today with Metalink (see today's story) as well as with Centillium and Excess Bandwidth.
