Hi Jeff :

>As value investors (ie. Graham/Newman/Buffet/Fisher), short term for us means "a >couple of years". It seems like most people there days have a trading mentality >where "short term" means anything shorter than a quarter.

This really happened... I was explaining to somebody about how investing equal amounts in the 50 highest dividend-yielding companies and rebalancing the portfolio every year, has given good results, compounding at 15% every year, from 1951 till date (I was quoting these numbers from James O'Shaughnessy's "What Works on Wall Street").

Since he was even more of a neophyte than me, I told him, "That means your investment would double every 5 years". To that, he replied, "It takes 5 YEARS?! And you call that good?! Who in the world will wait for five long years just to double his money?!"

Perhaps the rules have changed! :-)

Dipy.
