Steve, is there any way you can reconcile the Rapture and The Second Coming as being the same thing or coming together? Your opinion is appreciated.
The Second Coming comes at the height of the most devastating global war in history. Any believer alive at that time would certainly be anticipating the imminent return of Jesus as predicted by the prophets. Yet Jesus also tells believers that He will come for us suddenly and without specific warning signs. We are snatched away before we even know what hit us. We are then taken directly to His Father's house where He has prepared a place for us. (John 14:1-4)
In the Second Coming Jesus gathers all survivors to the valley just outside the Temple Mount and there He separates believers from unbelievers. The believers remain on earth as mortals and re-populate the millenial earth in His kingdom. The unbelievers are cast off the earth into eternal judgement. (Mat 25:31-46)
Now if the Rapture had just occurred, there would be no mortal believers left on earth to populate the Millenial kingdom of the Messiah.
There is no way to reconcile the two descriptions of Jesus' coming apart from there being two stages of the Second Coming. The first is secretly for the Church before the Tribulation period begins. The second is public and with awesome displays of judgement as the Messiah Jesus comes to save mankind from totally destroying himself and all life on the planet.
God bless,
James
ps: I realize scholars have argued for years about pre-trib, mid-trib and post-tribulation Rapture so if it causes any undue concern for anyone, it may be better not to discuss it. <:>)
