If they are in fact a King, then the JDSU's and EMC's and NTAP's of the world should be taking notes about how they pulled it off.
That's right, the others should! It is great execution, plus the fact that they had a long lead, that made it possible.
I think JDSU is in a similar situation. My only negative on them, (with apologies in advance to my Canadian friends), is the Canadian leadership and the fact that it is a Canadian company. An American based company can be a lot tougher on the employees (reorganization, for instance), when things get sticky, and our Government does not interfere as much in the companies business as Canada does.
The Culture of an American company is much more conducive to profits than that of the Cultures of companies outside the states. Our companies are more "lean and mean". The operative word to describe this is
"Freedom": i.e.) More total control of your own property, which gives you more drive to make it grow, because you do control it, and you get to keep more of what you make.
(I know I will catch hell from any "comparative culture" people who lurk here, for saying this, but it is true, nevertheless.)
As far as INTC being a King or Gorilla. I recognized it as a King before I understood the terms. I sold the stock when I saw that there was going to be pricing pressure on their chips. You never have to worry about pricing pressure on "The Three Gorillas", Microsoft, CSCO, or Q, unless there is a major technological breakthrough. |
