bp, I think many of us surely started as the equivalent of indentured servants and grew from there. As FT correctly said a while back, SS is a Ponzi scheme.

Time was, I believe, one could opt out of SS and maintain a personally directed retirement account, but no more.

More food for thought: Having no dependents, were I to die tomorrow, what I have paid and continue to pay into SS does not go to my heirs; it goes to the common pot, and that is criminal.

SS should be repealed posthaste.
