If you make a big noise about the superiority of a "culture", but have comparatively little interest in it, then it is worth mentioning. Since Mr. Conrad has had more than a few posts that indicate that he is a racist and anti- semite, it is no stretch to place him in a redneck milieu....
I am glad that you agree that the superior position of Western civilization, which I, in fact, revere, is not reducible to racial determinism....
If I were to label our civilization based upon its derivation, then I would not call it white. We originated in the city- states of the Tigris- Euphrates and the kingdoms of the Nile. I recently saw an exhibition of artifacts from the Old Kingdom of Egypt. Although the claim that Egypt was "black" is inaccurate, it is clear early Egyptians tended to have dark skin, and some of them had features we would call "negroid". It is likely that there was not a strict color line among them. But the thing is not whether those who originated the West were mainly white, but whether their whiteness is worth making something of.....
I do not think that the it is so difficult to guess at the characteristics of most people who espouse white supremacy, which is the subtext of Mr. Conrad's apologetic. But I certainly know how many angels can dance on the head of a pin: an infinite number, because angels, being creatures of intellectual substance, have position but not extension, and therefore do not take up any space......... |
