george,

I don't view the mega-mergers as good news for biotechs. The list of possible partners shrink, and the weaker projects at the combined companies tend to get culled.

Most biotechs are no longer cheap, and so this will also dampen mergers. The one area that may boom is if the larger biotechs with high stock prices (like AMGN and the booming genomics companies like CRA) go shopping with their highly-valued stock as currency. I have to believe that BGEN must be seriously out looking at this point as well.

There are a few biotechs that still look cheap and munchable - GLIA, GELX, PGNS and maybe LIPO come to mind as depressed biotechs with real products and decent prospects. (I currently own a bunch of GLIA and a little GELX and PGNS).
