Re: ADC Telecom(sym:ADCT)- Last Mile Bottle Neck Spending Projections

Thread- In the FWIW category, the CEO of yet another favorite of mine, ADC Telecom had some interesting comments to make about teleco/cableco spending plans. For those that don't know, ADCT considers themselves to be Last Mile specialist(understatment).

Everything they have is geared towards the last mile spending plans of both telcos and cablecos. I don't have a strong opinion on their ability to execute, but it's hard to argue their product positioning. Looks very good to me. I also have no opinion on it's current market valuation. I do have a position it in that I have had for awhile.

I do think his $billion/day(!) is on the high side. That's a trillion dollars in three years. Since the entire current 100 year old North American telecom network cost a trillion dollars to build, I don't believe in three years we'll be spending the same. Although he is including the worldwide infrastructure in his comments. But it's still too high. -MikeM(From Florida)

William Cadogan [CEO of ADCT] states, ``ADC is focused on the largest opportunity in our industry, building and upgrading the infrastructure -- not only in the U.S., but around the world -- to support higher speed applications for Internet access, video and voice services in the 'last mile/kilometer`` of communications networks.

We're excited to be a leading supplier to a worldwide industry that spends over $1 billion daily on equipment, software and services to build and upgrade communications networks. Building and upgrading the 'last mile/kilometer`` of the network is indeed the sweet spot of communications capital spending.'
