I don't know if his projections are extravagant, or not. They are at least plausible.

There is a tremendous amount of "change-out" and "leap-frogging" by newer platforms over older ones which have long since reached their limits, taking place. This will have an uncanny effect, as it has in the past, of equipping lesser endowed regions of the world with capabilities which surpass many of our own from a "potentials" standpoint, and on an interim to longer term basis.

There will be a substantial amount of infrastructure that has been used in many parts of the world for decades, behind, equipment that would now be of more value as museum pieces than as working network platforms for the evolving requirements of end users, both commercial and consumer, alike.

When you add the "growth" factor resulting from the Internet stimulus in still under-served areas of the planet to this "replacement" factor, the number climbs, significantly. Just how much of this activity falls within ADC's purview, or the last mile, for that matter, I don't know.
