Centigram and Lucent just demonstrated VPIM. VPIM is exciting internet VM message technology. It will allow message exchange between multiple VM systems. I think that this is a big threat to OCTL CPE base. Octel's best CPE is fortune 100. These companies have huge network of OCtel sierras, and can not easily change vendors due to OCtel's proprietary networking scheme. VPIM will change that. It could, however, also be a boost for Octle allowing them to move into their competitors' turf. Given that most large OCtel customers are locked into Sierra, I think I'd be a little nervous about VPIM if I were OCTEL. They have to support it in order to be seen as industry leader, but to do so will break their lock on fortune 100 customers. biz.yahoo.com
