On "permabears"

I think I've seen where the permabears live. In Denali Park in Alaska is a patch of pines, right at the edge of the tree line, called the "Drunken Forest". The roots are all above the permafrost layer, so the trees don't grow straight.

No, that couldn't be. The trees point every which way, not always pointing down.
