A view of the future... modification

David,

I did not respond to your view of the future because I agreed with most of it.

I think the average PC will still have a lot of computing power, lots of memory, a huge screen and anything else needed to run graphics intensive computer games that the little tykes have grown to love. Extremely fast computers will be extremely cheap in 5 years, so why not spend an extra $400 dollars to have the computing power available locally if you don't want to hook up to the web?

I still think that your centralized processing model will be pushed by all the software companies. Just think how much you could add to the bottom line if you don't have to pay packaging and distribution costs for your software. If you find a bug or want to update the software with a patch, new release or new version it can be accomplished instantaneously by distributing to the centralized software warehouses.

Software piracy will be greatly reduced if everybody accesses the software program remotely and does not have a copy of the program files themselves, especially if the software server can verify (biometrically-authenticate)the user.

On second thought, most people will have a home network of PCs with a smart server that is hooked up to the web and multiple dumb terminals with screens that are networked into the server.

With monitors built into the wall and pull out keyboards you will be able to surf the net and trade stocks while sitting on the reading room throne - the best place in the house to solve global problems and make important financial decisions.

So you see, except for a few minor details, we agree.
