Convertible bonds like these (convertible at 70% of market value) would alone put downward pressure on the stock even without shorting manipulation to get a lower price to go long. Bond holders more probably would just simply convert to stock at a 30% discount and then sell immediately to cash in on a quick profit. This is a simple and safer way for these bond holders to make money, but you are right to think that these type of convertible debentures can cause downward pressure on the stock. IMVHO
