Kash and all, re: 2H ramp-up of Dresden,
You know, ever since AMD presented their Athlon roadmap for 2000 (Thunderbird, Spitfire, Mustang, etc.), I've had kind of a nagging feeling in the back of my head that something didn't add up. First, I had originally assumed that Dresden was scheduled for production ramp-up in Q2. Second, I heard that Dresden was going to be copper-only. And third, AMD said that Mustang was going to be introduced in 2H, and that it was going to be the first Athlon w/ copper interconnects.
What I couldn't figure out was what Dresden was going to produce between the Q2 ramp-up and the 2H introduction of Mustang. But I didn't think about it much back then, because I thought I was missing part of the overall picture. Now that we're hearing about a 2H ramp-up of Dresden, I guess the pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together now.
Clearly, AMD intends to use Dresden to introduce and ramp-up Mustang cores. But on the other hand, AMD did lead us to believe that ramp-up would originally start in Q4 1999. Then it slipped to Q1, Q2, and now 2H of 2000. (I can't back it up, but I'm sure Paul Engel is willing to dig up the dirt.) Anyway, like I said before, I'm sure we'll find out more next week during the CC.
Any thoughts?
