DJN =DJ Panja Up -3-: Intel Invested In Co. In December >PNJA
Jan 14 2000 11:52

"There have been articles in the last few weeks about Intel
Corp. (INTC) doing a lot in the set-top box area, making Linux-based
set-top boxes" Pacific Growth Equities analyst Steve Olson said,
adding that Intel is likely incorporating Panja's technology into
a new set-top product.
"Intel can use Panja's technology to connect to many distinct
devices, the installed base of most consumer electronic equipment,"
Olson said.
Panja in December received a $5 million investment from Intel
and is developing interoperable products with the computer giant.

Pacific Growth initiated coverage on Panja at strong buy in
mid-December, but Olson said the company didn't stir much client
interest until now.
He said the interest probably stems from Panja's new Internet
"gateway" device, Panja 1000, a home network that connects users
to the Internet through their PC, stereo, television and other
electronic devices.
"You have a wireless touchpad screen that works throughout
your house with which you can direct content from the Internet,"Olson explained. "You usually go through your PC for browsing
or shopping, but if you think of the day-to-day information needs
people have--stock quotes, sports or traffic information--the
touchpad can direct that to your TV. Instead of listening on your
PC speakers, you can be sitting on your living room couch and
send it right to your stereo speakers."
Olson said he anticipates that Panja will announce a distribution
agreement for Panja 1000 some time in its first quarter, which
ends March 31.
"They've launched their Internet strategy, but they don't have
distribution yet for this product, which is an obvious need,"
he said. "Their plan is to distribute through DSL and broadband
cable service providers. Once they have that, they'll have a lot
more leverage."
