I smell a typical AMD flub instead of taking modest steps - which they were implementing with ATIQ where they go for a HOME run and flail about.

There was nothing modest about K7. AMD has played a very aggressive game during the last 5 years. Six years ago they were still copying Intel microcode. Since then they have brought up at least one very aggressive fab and two very aggressive CPU designs.

AMD being conservative is not what made you a lot of money today.
