Major article on the Basis100-E*Trade partnership on the cover page of today's FP. It makes a strong case for the future of mortgage shopping and transactions over the Net. Whereas today only 1% of mortgages are handled online, analysts predict that by 2005, up to 30% of mortgage business will be conducted over the Net. That translates to $25-billion worth of Internet mortgages in Canada. In the U.S., Forrester Research estimates for online mortgage origination are for 9.6% of U.S. $91.2 billion market by 2003.
