Double Down : Reflections on Gambling and Loss
by Frederick Barthelme, Steven Barthelme
Haunting books on the psychology and the effect of casino gambling that easily applies to the daytrading/momentum investing people too. I've seen people lose thousands in the casino and market. The brothers fit the profile of the people I've met in person and on SI. Sometimes being in the action with a crowd of gamblers (novice daytrading) is more important than winning. Kind of like chasing a momentum play without any DD. I used to think being a hot shooter on a crap table was the greatest high in the world until I watched many friends fall victim to gambling and lose a fortune as well as some families. I guess the market is the new casino and the IRA is the bankroll. Trying to tell some SI people about bad momentum stocks is like telling dice people that the field bet is a losing bet. If the table is hot, nothing really matters. Marty Scwartz was right in his book - Pit Bull. Double Down confirms it.
