I found this interesting post when I was reviewing the old Sanity thread links that Holly posted, fwiw. Not the "maximum taxable earnings" prior to 1990. I was born in 1964 and I know that all my life there has been acute awareness regarding demographic trends... its not like this "snuck up" on anybody.
