On memory, I just added another 128 to my box for total of 256. I have a mem management util, and even with 256 I show 80% of available ram 256M used with just a few programs open. Definitely cuts down on disk caching, and speeds up things, esp. switching programs.
Different prices arise from namebrand, no namebrand, mixed-brand chips on a stick, lifetime warranty or not, ECC (error checking or parity bit -- extra bit for each byte) or not, and of course speed based on your bus. I have a 100MHz bus, so need PC100 memory. I opted for no ECC, all namebrand chips on a warrantied stick. Cost me $225. I think most people also opt for nonECC. The rest is personal preference. Easy to install yourself. Just plug in. Nothing else to do.
