PB, Yes, it is quite a close race, however from what I see and read the Athlon is superior to the P-III if cache is excluded. This is clear. So when AMD gets cache on the AThlon(full speed, I mean) then it will go ahead of the P-III. Now it is all execution and AMD cannot afford errors. Intel is large enought that it can absorb some errors, however they have cost Intel dearly since almost all the top tier makers now use AMD, and I suspect even Dell is testing a few....just in case.
