I stumbled upon another brief article about the Nasdaq of Japan In the Feb. issue of SmartMoney.

The gist of the article is that the rumurs are that the runup in the Nikkei may make it look overvalued right now. But its status as the most-watched Japanese index may not be the best way to look at the market. The Nikkei is in their opinion "old" Japan and is "grossly underweighted" in telecom and technology.

They noted that if you want to know what is really going on in Japan you need to look at the Topix. The first reason being it dominates technology. Softbank and Ntt Mobil were singled out as the two hottest stocks in Japan. Also, because it is weighted by market caps vs.the Nikkei which is just an average of all 225 stocks from larger, stodgier companies.

I usually find Smart Money to be a bit behind the times. I was surprised to see this article, let alone a mention of Softbank in the article. But, hey, it is news, and was worth posting...
