Hi,

1) I think it would be a very good idea to read the books in the header, and get resources from cboe, also in the header. Options are risky vehicles. It's very important to get yourself a basic knowledge.

As to your specific questions: so much depends on your goals, portfolio, tax situaiton, and capacity to exercise.

If you hold less than a year you are taxed short-term cap gains; over a year and it's long term, which is 20%.
