dynamic portfolios are seldom the goal of successful retirees

Most people on this board could get by, (with say, the house they have and any modest pension,) pulling down 100k a year from a one Million market portfolio. That takes a 10% increase a year in the portfolio to cover. As I have said before, every indication I get says that most people here that are pulling the plug have twice that, or 2 Mil, in the market.

So they could take one hell of a bear market and still do well.

If you had a portfolio of 25% QCOM, MSFT, CSCO, and INTC each, for instance, you are going to do well over the next 5 years without worrying about it.

But lets face it. The people here are all active investors. They are not going to turn into turtles simply because they have retired.

I consider the advice given on those retirement planning boards to be pretty low level, by our standards.
