The Art of Short Selling by Kathryn Staley
A popular book that is on several peoples' book lists. I found it repetive with numerous examples of bad stock histories and a scant section on how to do it and tips for shorts. I think reading the street.com articles or the A@P thread on shorting are more helpful. The graphs of short interest vs. stock price show why many shorts go broke. The best example is 11-12M short interest (highest amount short interest from 1992-1994) on Snapple in May-June 1993 and the price goes up. Of course Snapple tanked in Feb 1994, but how many shorts bit the dust before then. I think the book is excellent for showing one how to dissect a balance sheet for weak long candidates. I like the history of famous shorters described in the book.
"Many shorts avoid technology stocks like the plague" show the dated thinking present in the book.
A book sorely needing an update.
