Toby--I very much appreciate the response. Yes, she has a very nicely diversified portfolio that includes income producing holdings. And no, she really doesn't need the income. Her needs are small and she usually has more cash than uses for it. Your response was my gut feeling. I only use a discount online broker and understand the benefits to a regular broker of keeping an account active. But this also gives me pause. While the broker can rationalize the transactions as benefiting his client (my mother), he also benefits his pocketbook.

I think she is safe holding onto the BRW and getting more than a 5 3/4% increase this year.
