Unique Broadband Systems, Inc. Announces Development Of RealLinux(TM): A Real-Time Operating System For Embedded Devices
MARKHAM, ON, Dec. 10 /CNW-PRN/ - Unique Broadband Systems, Inc. (CDNX: UBS) today announced that it has commenced the development of RealLinux(TM); a real-time operating system based on the popular open-source Linux operating system. RealLinux(TM) is targeted to serve the digital embedded hardware industry globally. The result of this development will be drastic reductions in development costs and royalty fees paid by digital hardware manufacturers worldwide.
The main features of RealLinux(TM) are that it will provide all Linux system calls and network support, and will be small enough for embedded devices, which can be stored and executed from ROM and flash memories. Although Linux does not support real-time scheduling, UBS' RealLinux(TM) will have full real-time scheduling capabilities, which is critical for real-time embedded applications. Our source code will be open to the public and the UBS technical team will provide 24x7 support. The first application for RealLinux(TM) will be based on the Motorola 68360.
Concurrent with this development, UBS is also developing a generic network management system based on RealLinux(TM). Standard controllers powered by RealLinux(TM) will provide SNMP and web access to digital equipment over the Internet. It is expected that these products will be commercially introduced to the market within the next 12 months.
