Well, with February starting the first year of my retirement (I gave them 4 weeks notice :-)...

I'm planning on writing weekly checks out of margin. Assuming a portfolio of $600k or so, and safety margin of 50% loss of value, portfolio would have a margin availability of about $150k (that's a *lot* of take-home income). Figure that selling stock next Jan or Feb to cover the margin, allows that income money to work all year, earning a lot more than the 9% or so (deductible?) margin interest. Effectively pushes out the taxable sale of stock for income by a year. Too risky for a conservative style?

(My actual situation is more complicated, I'm actively trading some non-G&K holdings)
