That's your problem -- if you wish to believe people who have economic interests in jacking up defense spending. The United States faces no serious military threats. We can obliterate anyone who sasses us. Unfortunately, our missile defense is inadequate, primarily because we have wasted so much on offensive weapons we don't need.
Be sure that you know what you are talking about. DI only goes to people with past earnings who are permanently and totally unable to work. It is not needs tested. Don't get it confused with Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled -- a form or welfare administered by the states with partial funding from the federal government.
