Looks as if Peter has a solid alibi, though his call to his mother was convenient.

Especially if he talked with her answering machine, knowing she was out ... but Mom won't admit. Also, some boys have educated their Moms to let them go early, especially if they talked already on the same day.

But everyone who goes this way has this suspect in this scenario planning the murder already before entering his apt and making the call.
