I have to agree about Quicken, now if I would only use it.
Has all the cigar smoke cleared from the air yet in the retirement gin and tonic gorilla game lounge? <vbg>
My sincere congratulations and no condolences to all that made the step from previous work and the entry into the new line of work. Let's see, how about a little look into Random House Dictionary (sorry, the wife used to work for Ballantine Books in NYC and therefore we have no room for Webster's in our villa)?
retired, adj. 1. no longer occupied with one's business or profession. 2. withdrawn or secluded.
retire, v., -tired, -tiring 1 and 2 skipped as we're not talking about going to bed or going to a place of shelter or seclusion. 3. to withdraw from office, business, or active life, usually because of age.
God, Random House sounds dreadful! I see my copy was assembled in 1978. Time to upgrade to a newer version.
Well, we know that those making the change to 'retirement' on this thread have just entered a new 'career' and will be quite occupied in the pursuit of continued capital investing and other endeavors for many, many years to come - especially if they take Lindy's advice and chase 21 year old girls around the dance floor after doing three days a week of derivative exercises from the late, great George B. Lindy, my favorite picture from your 'slide show' was one entitled the "Russian split". If I were you (and I'm not), that's a move I would practice with as much regularity as a 21 year old dance partner - or any partner - would allow. <ggg>
Luckily, we have our nice G & K index up 4.3% for the year. Let's see, that's <clickity clack, clickity clack, ching, shazam> a weekly average of 2.15% (thank you Intel) which if kept on pace for a mere 50 more weeks will yield a nice little <clickity clack, clickity clack, ching, shazam> 111.8% return for 2000. I'm just having fun here as I haven't quite mapped out my next 5 to 7 years of spending money and love to fire up the calculator (when it works).
I will do my part to represent the youthful crowd who still shows up for work to encourage another 20 to 30 years of successful gorilla game and godzilla game investing. I will be presenting my initial assignment of CNXT in "Project Hunt" once I have finished collecting all the data that I need over the next couple of weeks. I'm a little busy with the grease paint and vocalization business at the moment, so I have to stay away from the cigar smoke to keep the cash coming in to the account. While we hunters tackle our assignments, keep up the good discussion and posts and do as Lindy says - get out of those Lazyboys and cut some rugs - or at least do a few Russian Splits.
