i always assumed this to be the case, but received a barrage of 'corrections' to such a comment on another thread. it would make sense that they be prohibited from using margin, but a bunch of people insisted they have margin in their IRA (for buying securities, not for spending the cash outside the account). maybe they have a confused broker, maybe they are confused. i don't know what the answer is.
