Nortel Networks Provides High-Performance Network for World Economic Forum
Network Designed for Heads of State, World's CEOs at Mountainside Gathering
LONDON, UK, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ - For the second year in a row, Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE:NT) has built a high-performance network for the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, enabling 2,500 guests to be on-line and constantly connected to their e-mail from hundreds of PCs throughout Davos, Switzerland and the adjacent town of Klosters.
The network is custom-designed to provide the performance, reliability and ease-of-use required for the busy, powerful heads of state and corporate chief executives who will attend, including US President Bill Clinton and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
This year's Davos network will feature new, innovative solutions including a dedicated leased line link from Davos to a Network Operations Centre in Geneva, enabling all network management, security and reliability aspects to be managed remotely.
Connectivity to hotels in Davos will be provided using Nortel Networks 1 Meg Modem and ADSL(asymmetric digital subscriber line) connections - giving increased speed (20 times the speed of a dial-up connection), increased bandwidth and greater security than ever. The conference venues will be networked with a gigabit Ethernet LAN, providing enhanced speed and reliability.
Heads of state, senior government officials, and corporate chief executives will use the network to communicate, collaborate, and plan and manage their itineraries, making the most of the packed agenda of meetings and discussion groups involving some of the most powerful people in the world.

The Annual Meeting takes place from January 27 to February 1, 2000. Nortel Networks will individually
network all the delegates, enabling them to:
- Use interactive kiosks as the main tool for access to conference
materials:
- Remote registration for conference sessions, meals and events
- Search the delegate database to schedule meetings on-line
- Access the Internet over high-speed connections
- Access their own e-mail accounts, which are securely hosted at the
World Economic Forum's headquarters in Geneva
