if you have norton utilities (as either a stand alone program or a component within norton systemworks), you can move the swap file to the beginning of the disk by selecting an option. do you have this software, ed? if you don't, i'm sorry but i don't know how it's done.

benefit is speed, just as all frequently accessed files can be arranged on the hd according to frequency of use. the swap file is probably the most frequently used file (someone correct me, please, if i'm wrong), so one benefits from placing it first.

probably not a very good explanation....
