AMD Market Share Gaining, Mercury Research Says
Arik Hesseldahl

Jan 14, 2000 --- A newly resurgent Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. is
beginning to gain in PC processor market share, according to
forthcoming research from Mercury Research, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Dean McCarron, principal analyst, said AMD's market share for the
fourth quarter of 1999 grew to 17 percent, up from 12.5 percent the
previous quarter. McCarron said the data was preliminary and will not
be finalized until next week.

"They're doing significant better than was forecast," McCarron said.

The report comes on the heels of Intel Corp. reported a $2.1 billion profit
for the fourth quarter, and ahead of AMD's fourth quarter earnings
report due Wednesday. Analysts expect AMD will manage to squeeze a
small profit for the quarter after reporting several consecutive quarters
of losses.
