hi stockhawk, i just spoke with cree ir regarding the brightness issue. fran barsky at cree (tel 919 313-5397) informed me that sapphire based are still brighter than SiC based leds. she expounded on that by stating: cree has been closing the gap. the sapphire based high brights are really necessary for only certain specific high end apps. cree has regular and high bright leds. cree regular leds are used in vw dashboards. cree highbright leds are appropriate for and currently used in outdoor apps...she mentioned four. the sign on the cree building, a race track sign in scotland and i believe a world cup sign in australia, traffic signals. unclewest
