I'm not interested in discussing my personal situation, however I can assure you that 90% of stock option grants for 50-person dot com startups are effectively counted as NO compensation - irrespective of this, they vest over a 4 year period with nothing coming due for the first 12 mos. They go bust about 50% of the time I'd say.

Again - the point is not whether someone working in a dot com should accept welfare. Imo they should not, under any circumstances - but then, neither should someone living in a 600K house. Its one thing if you have a solvent system with cash everywhere. But when you have a broken system that threatens to eat the entire federal budget over the next 40 years - drastic modifications are necessary - and the wealthy elderly should at least feel a tinge of responsibility here... wouldn't you think?
