Dr. Flick's Amazing Silverlon
Bandages Harness the Anti-Microbial Power of Silver
-by Pat Shannan
Silver has been nature's "antibiotic" throughout history. It has been used to purify water and kill infection internally, so why not apply its use externally?

Such were the thought of Dr. A. Bart Flick more than 20 years ago, while skill a medical student at the State University of New York. It was during his senior year in 1979 that he was introduced to the application of silver in wound healing in the form of silver iontophoresis (driving silver ions into biological tissues) at the laboratory of Dr. Robert Becker and Andrew Marino. And while his medical career over the next two decades revolved around orthopedic surgery, he was always bothered by the unexplored frontiers of silver iothophoresis and its healing enhancement.

While he was completing his residency at the University of Vermont, permission was obtained from the Human Experimentation Committee to apply (what later became) Silverlon to a patient with serious bone infection and soft tissue loss. With this application, the patient's leg was saved and Flick became a believer in this almost unheard-of treatment.
