I lost a friend over the weekend to cancer.

I bring this up because I feel it is important to always remind ourselves what is really matters in life...life.

Dave and I were members of an early investment group on the net when you could write down all the web addresses on one sheet of paper. We met in Charleston awhile back, along with other members of the group, and shared a lot of laughter and good times. He became a life long pal and we stayed connected via this medium. It goes without saying, of course, that without the internet we would have never known each other. Despite the anonymous nature of this thing, it is real and real people connect...making lasting friendships that make our lives fuller.

Below is a little thing he wrote last month. I especially like the last line.

Take Care,
Rick

"Chemotherapies and drugs are leaving me rather unclearheaded. Short term memory really stinks right now, but luckily these are problems I can deal with. The spread of the cancer to other places is going to be a problem which we can aggressively treat. 1999 gains in the market are going to be spent towards getting me well. In 1999, it was very hard to lose money, but the point of money is to do good, so if I can regain my health, the money is not a problem."
